Weekly Post 3: Covid-19 Isolation

Hey there! While we are all aware of the major outbreak of a virus known as Covid-19, which has managed to spread out across the world during the month of March, causing many to have to stay in their homes in order to avoid being infected. As with many other parts of the world, Puerto Rico is found to be in a state of being quarantined in order to avoid the spread, as a few cases were found and have yet to be considered positive, although the country is taking a more “Better safe than sorry” approach, which I can commend. Due to this, many schools were also disbanded for the time being, having to continue classes through an online manner, which is what I’m going through with my college. A curfew was also instated in order to avoid people to simply just go out in the middle of the night and a halt was given to large events where many groups of people would be present in order for the spread to not continue.

While the sudden pandemic has caused many issues for people and me especially as I can’t use the campus in order to do certain works or even being able to just see people I’d like to chat with in person, it’s not exactly a bad experience to be quite honest. I’ve always enjoy time inside my home, along with being able to catch up with certain things that I wouldn’t be able to do in the apartment I stayed in San Juan, such as play on the Xbox a bit more regularly. The new experience with the online classes has also been quite something, with both the good parts (such as being able to watch back recordings, a lot more interactions between the student and the teacher and the work being relatively easier to accomplish) but also the bad things (the extension of classes to the last week of May, sometimes students forgetting that there’s a mute button and their background noises simply ruin the immersion of the class.)

All in all, it is a very odd experience to go through, especially after already living through other disasters such as the Hurricane Maria back in late 2017 to the Earthquakes that nearly cripple the south-west part of the island earlier this year, but it’s something that we gotta wait until it wares off, although I can only imagine the huge economical crisis that may come after the pandemic is over. Well anyways, thank you for watching! Truly glad you took the time to rude, I’m sorry for posting something that is not exactly happy in nature, but I wanted to share the experience that I have at the moment. Have a lovely day!

Weekly Post 2: The release of the anime “Beastars” on Netflix

Hey there! Apologies for a later release of this post, sadly the Coronavirus pandemic has had my family and household have some issues, especially in terms of internet connection, but I’m here to deliver what was intended to be last week’s post

So we all know Netflix right? The titan that brought the streaming service into the popularity that it has today, with many movies, series and documentaries making their way into their service, and with only a 10 dollar fee monthly, it’s quite the deal to go with. These days the streaming service has evolved quite a lot and many new series and movies have made their way into Netflix to bulster the loss of many Disney owned media as they were moved to the now famous Disney+

While there were many new additions to talk about that can warrant it’s own post, I wanted to focus on a new series from back in 2019 that caught my eye at the time, but I had no method to really watch it until last Friday, when the first season made its way into Netflix, that series is called “Beastars”

Small description of the plot

Beastars takes place in an anthropomorphic animal-styled world where they seemed to exists in relative harmony, despite the differences and being constantly categorized, either by species or either being a carnivore or herbivore, in a fairly very rude but realistic way. We find ourselves into a modern high school, where Legoshi, a gray wolf, seems to want to avoid making contact with people, wanting to keep to himself and it’s been like that for his entire life (despite being in the drama club). Then once he meets a dwarf rabbit named Haru, his whole perspective and world changes, wherever he wants to or not, although he has taken notice that this new instincts of his is more of a curse than it actually seems to be.

Why am I taking more notice of this rather than other series

It’s mainly to highlight how grateful I am that such streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, etc exist for me to be able to watch foreign shows that catch my eye but I have no method to really get a glimpse of due to the long process of censorship and other various things that may delay it’s release to the west. I also wanted to make a small recommendation to the series itself, while the anthro-like world isn’t exactly a new concept at all, it still takes a much more darker and realistic tone of how a world like that would really work, with the many negative remarks the different species seem to tell one another, a way to show a sort of segregation in a society that’s suppose to be promoting harmony and peace between them.

Granted that it must be noticed that it is an M rated show, due to the themes, possible show of cartoon nudity and various other things that may not be recommended for kids, so do be wary when showing it to someone of less that 15 years of age. Overall this ended up a rather small post compared to my last one which went more into detail over a game I absolutely love, but I really wanted to give a shout out to this anime that really caught my eyes, especially since I don’t really consider myself as one to just watch any anime just because, so I consider it a job well done to captivate me and many others.

Daily Information of the Class! (March 10, 2020)

Today on the class of Informatica 103, we first spoke about the threat of the ever expanding Coronavirus, where a website of the university was stated in terms of looking up reliable information of the virus and also the procedures that will be taken if one were to catch the virus or it becomes too widespread across the country.

Instapaper

Instapaper is the latest program that we’ve been introduced to by our professor today, in which is used to bookmark certain web articles, small comments or even whole pages if need be for later use in other devices and such.

Link: https://www.instapaper.com/u

Evernote

It’s the other program that was newly introduced into the class, where it can take notes, data management, images and others in the internet to find and share easily with others, along with letting you analyze or see these comments in better detail.

Link: https://evernote.com/

Introduction of the use of notes in Google

As was shown today, you were able to create notes onto Google itself, seeing much use in Gmail pages and can be checked out in keep.google.com, or the sidebar in the side bar of the gmail (second icon on the bar.) It can be used to sync up with your mobile calendar and take notice of notifications of certain events you may have there. You can also see your calendar on the top icon!

Privacy vs the Internet

In the past decades, the internet has been a great tool for humanity in looking up, storing and keeping information that others may use, alongside other things. But it has also caused many issues in terms of keeping yourself private against the world. The fact that the Internet itself was used to store up information has to be taken in consideration when you’re speaking about or showing yourself out there, especially since other hostile forces can use it against you, even facial recognition can be used against you if there’s enough images of you out there to replicate. We have to take notice of how much information you give out and how much do you trust in the people you’re sending it out to.

Each person has a distinct personality that compliments well with each other, with the cast booming with charisma and talented talkers. Cultaholic has been one of my favorite channels to catch up with and watch due to my enjoyment of the craft that is wrestling and the amount of fun and respect they have for their content is something I seem to enjoy every day, whether it be Ross’ funny skits or the lists made by their group and such. If you’re a big wrestling fan and you just want to have some fun, give them a watch, they are a blast.)

He also brings a bundle of charisma and personality to his videos, creating skits and collaborating with other youtubers to bring a good amount of comedy, fun and just a good time in general. Libros (Goodreads.com, 3)

>The Great Gatsby

-(F. Scott Fitzgerald bring an amazing perspective of the Jazz Age of the United States, that being the Roaring 1920, through the eyes of Nick Carraway, a humble man of New York living close by a mysterious yet captivating man known as β€œGatsby” as his antics and lavish parties are well known across the neighborhood. The stories help to shine a light towards all the shade present in the era, from the large lavish parties to the darkness of humanity and how these times really show how far a person can go, for the good and the bad.)

>1984

-(George Orwell brings an interesting perspective, a dark timeline where humanity goes into a catastrophe that forces the world leaders to create a dystopian society called Oceania, showing an excessive control over the people to the point that they can alter their thoughts, their memories and their way of life. We go through the eyes of Winston as he begins to see through the cracks, to see what the world truly is bit by bit, and through the story, he’ll find many trials… for he might escape the eye of Big Brother.)

>The Shining

-(Stephen King hits us with an all-time horror classic novel that grew a worldwide fan base due to its creepy and unsettling viewing of the psyche of man and how easily they could snap when put under a strong sense of isolation and pushed away by those he believes care for him. Jack Torrance and his family go to stay at the Overlook Hotel in order to try to start out anew in his novel, although we will see how the sinister feeling grows inside the hotel… and Jack as well.)

PelΓculas, Series (imdb.com, 3)

>Star Wars: Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back

-(After the great success of the original Star Wars in 1977, it was no wonder that they’d try to make a new chapter in the timeless story, that being Episode 5, The Empire Strikes Back, released in 1980. It’s, in my opinion, a masterpiece, a great piece of sci-fi cinema that still lives up to this day, from the great performances of Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Harrison Ford and more, to the great impact it brought into media at the time. The story follows through 3 years after A New Hope, where the Rebel Alliance has found refuge on the planet Hoth, although a recon droid soon find this base and the Empire comes to try to overwhelm the Alliance; it’s up for our heroes to go through this journey to escape the Empire all throughout the galaxy.)

Link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0080684/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

>Sherlock (2010)

-(Inspired by the world-renowned novel, Sherlock 2010 takes the concept of the famed world of Sherlock Holmes and brings it into the 21st century, giving it a new light and feel while also still keeping the wit and charm of the novel. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman are both great in this series, portrayed an updated version of both Sherlock and Watson respectively and it’s definitely a must watch for any fan of a murder mystery series, or if you’re a big fan of the Sherlock stories as well.)

Link: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1475582/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0

>Megamind

-(Megamind is an animated movie from DreamWorks based on the idea of parodies of the usual superhero tropes and stories, but with a twist. It turns out in this story, Megamind is the main character while also being the villain of the story, but once his nemesis, Metro Man, I believe to be killed, he loses all purpose and tries to find a new meaning in his life as evil had been the only thing he has ever known.)

Weekly Topic: Upcoming update for Rainbow Six Siege (Year 5, Season 1)

Hello there! It’s me again, dishing out a bit of information that I find interesting, with this week being the first many down the line. In this post, there will be information about a major update of a game that I love and enjoy called Rainbow Six Siege. If you’re unfamiliar, Rainbow Six Siege is a 5 vs 5 real time tactical shooter with the attacking team trying to get into a certain building and the defenders trying to stall them out as much as possible before completing the objective given. It’s filled with many characters with different designs, aspects, weaponry and abilities that can truly turn the tied of any gunfight and make a great impact in the round, such as manipulating the map to one’s favor or to simply have a more explosive entry into a room

This year, Ubisoft has given us a huge amount of information about the new season, called operation Void Edge:

-A rework of the famed map Oregon
-Balance Changes
-Equipment changes
-2 new Operators
-And more!

Oregon Rework

-One of the original maps back when the game had just came out, Oregon is now getting a new polish to ensure the map stays competitive friendly and adaptable to the new operators that came out in the years after. These new addition can be seen in the video below, along with the comparison of the old map with the new one:
Property of IGN and Ubisoft

Balance Changes

-With any big update to Rainbow Six Siege, comes big balance changes with in-game mechanics and such. The biggest being the removal of debris as one tries to open the barricades, which are used to close off doors and certain windows. Back in the original game release up to till now, whenever someone were to melee the barricade, the piece of wood would blast out to the other side, giving a strong indicator of where the person might open up from; with the new update, this effect will be removed, with now the piece simply vanishing, this was done to avoid a current issue where the piece of wood would stay stuck in the barricade, causing that it’s almost impossible to see through.

-We also see the removal of Clash, being the 3rd time she has been removed from the game for a period of time over an exploit of sorts. While the last 2 times was due to a devastating glitch that would cause her to shoot with still in shield deployment mode, this one is less harmful but still an issue. Due to Oryx’s ability being able to stun down enemies and Clash being a walking shield, they could both work together in a very effective.. maybe too effective manner, in which caused many unfair fights with the two working together. Hopefully this exploit will be fixed before reaching the live servers this Monday.

Equipment changes
With the balance changes, certain operators have gotten some equipment swaps in order to make the competition fair and to enhance some underwhelming characters, keeping up a high pick-rate:

-Castle acquiring the Super Shorty secondary shotgun.
-Maverick, Ying and Nook getting frag grenades in favor of their clay-mores.
-Recruit, a classic favorite of the community, now receives a major rework in which he has less weapons to work with, but now with his exclusive line-up, he’s able to use enhancements such as sights, barrels and such, in which before they were unable too, plus they now have more equipment to work with such as more grenades, more reinforcements for walls and such.

Void Edge New Operators: Oryx and Iana

Oryx
-Oryx is a Jordanian Defense Operator with the ability to.. pretty much bench press the entire map, I’m joking of course- Oryx’s abilities vary in terms of how he uses his strength and extreme speed to tackle down and stun enemies, leaving them wide open for the kill. He also has an ability in which lets him climb up hatches, being the only defender to do so and the second operator, first being Amaru, to be able to do so, although he does have the option to watch and go up, or go down if he believes it won’t end well. He also has the iconic MP5 SMG or SPAS-12 in terms of primary, the Bailiff 410 or USP40 for the secondary and Barbed Wire or a Bulletproof Camera as an additional gadget. He’s a 2 armor and 2 speed and seems very balanced, a fun operator to wait for sure.

Iana
-Iana is a Dutch Attacker Operator with a space-ops background and white hair, apparently- Anyways, Her ability is to create a hologram of herself and being able to roam across the map for a period of time, being able to see around the map and bait enemies into thinking it’s the real Iana, although you can’t shoot as a hologram and it’s easily destroyed but can be deployed after a few seconds. Her main weapons are the G36C or the ARX200 assault rifles, the Mk1 9mm pistol and frag grenades or smoke grenades as additional gadgets. She’s a 2 armor and 2 speed and seems to be a fun operator that’s team heavy, can’t wait to see team plays alongside her hologram to bait and clear out rooms.
Property of Ubisoft btw-

Catch up-Review (25/02/2020)

Hey! Today in class we learned on how to properly manage the class’ main website and how to verify if your works were able to be posted and verified by the professor. With this, we learned to use the tabs properly, such as distinguish posts from the different sections of the class, whether it be works or reviews like this one and how to make sure your work gets pasted into the website with the usage of tags and such. Alongside being able to check if the website is linked to the main one by checking the lower right end of the Inf103 site.

The difference between internet and the Web:

-The internet is considered to be the physical connection between the cables and properties that tie computers together, or in other words, a large connection of different networks. These networks work around every device that can access it, creating a mutual existence in all of these.
-The Web is a network of the information gathered inside the internet itself, such as sites, who are connected by different links. Each link directs into a small portion of the internet where the information that you require will appear, as long as it’s a legitimate site.

> The usage of web-links and the process:
-The client, when creating a site and granting access from the main admin, this admin will generate a special link in order to differ from other parts of the internet that might share the same information.
-There is no such this as a real “Incognito Mode” as the companies and others can still register where you look up your information, although it won’t register into your Search History.
-Each computer has a distinct IP address on every device in the world, although there are techniques that may or may not work to bypass this.
-While searching for the site, cables from across the world will register the location of the site, even if foreign, and brings it into the web search engine itself in fast speeds.
-This progress goes live as it takes a few seconds, or more with lag, to properly load in the website you require.
-The usage of the first words on the left of the link helps to determine a link that is able to load in by the main server.
-The last words (domains) as well will determine perhaps a site that is restricted by region or is change in language and such depending on the region.

>Types of Domains
-Com.
-Edu.
-Gov. (Cannot be freely used outside the U.S. government)
-Org.
-Blog.
-Museum.
-Net.
-Differentiation by country (Fr.,Es.,Pr., etc.)
-Tv.
-Ai

-Hyper-text Transfer Protocol (.https).
-Hyper-text Mark-up Language (.html)

>Small facts we learned
-There’s an island in the Caribbean which has the rights to the domain of Ai called Angila.
-The S in https means that the site was secured by security.
Relating to the idea of the Web and the internet not being combined.

The internet and me: The usage and how important it is to my life

We’re all aware of the internet and how much of an
impact on humanity it has, making it the most used tool to express and state
information and ideas around the world in a fast and easy manner. It has made
many people’s lives much easier in being able to find the exact instructions
they need to complete certain tasks, or even simply to catch up and chat with
friends, whether it be from across the street or from a whole other continent
in the other side of the world.

My experiences with such a tool have been one of
fondness and high dependence, although I do admit it can get a bit too far at
times. I always enjoyed how it lets your visit so many sites, read about
practically anything that can come to your mind and just overall, help you
learn things that you never knew before.

It’s usage in terms of social media helps being able to express creativity
among many good content creators such as small-time artists, people who do
viral videos and much more; this tool helps them to get known out in the world,
as perhaps by any other means they wouldn’t have been able to. Alongside that,
like stated before, it helps you meet new people from other places, to learn
about their daily lives or simply chat a bit over a shared interest of a
subject.

It can also greatly improve the livelihood of
schools, college and other institutions, as it’s not only a good place to look
up information if a library or any other source is unavailable, but it also brings
in the idea of being able to share works, books and others to student in a fast
and easy fashion, one where they don’t have to spend extra whatsoever. Thanks
to this, I’ve been able to keep up with my work, do it on time and greatly
diminished the stress of having to get or buy too many books that could cost a
lot of money and also slowly create pressure on my back, which can be very
unhealthy.

Of course, every good thing tends to have a draw
back in this imperfect world, and the internet is no exception. Often being
used a tool for harassment, bullying, stealing of other people’s hard work and
even the dreaded “dark web” are big signs of the horrible side of the
internet, one where people hide behind a screen and go around making other’s
experiences more frustration for the sake of it being “funny”. I’ve
had bad experiences with these kinds of people and trust me, they can really
ruin your day if you’re not careful, but you shouldn’t let them get to you,
remember that whatever horrible thing they might say about you, it only means
that you’re the opposite, a positive rather than a negative.

Overall the internet is far from flawless, it has its issues here and there, but it cannot be denied that it has greatly improved the life of many, many people around the world, from learning great things through its expansive gallery of information, or to just simply listen to music and watch a video of anything you desire. I’m very certain that it has greatly improved the livelihood of my life in many, many aspects and will continue to do so for many generations of humans to come.
